Hieronymus Bosch was a Flemish painter, born in 1450. His work is primarily known for its grotesque and unusual portrayals of otherworldly creatures. But, his work also hides deep symbolism. Some believe the painting showed here, entitled “The Wayfarer”, contains numerous Masonic symbols. Which ones do you see?
It is commonly thought that the subject is “choosing between the path of virtue at the gate on the right or debauchery in the house on the left, or as the prodigal son returning home from the world.” The painting currently resides at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
